Jacob shares his vision for dayton at campaign rally | October 2, 2025

Jacob Davis, Shenise Turner Sloss, and Darryl Fairchild held a joint campaign rally on October 2, 2025 at the Dayton Metro Library to kickoff early voting. Jacob’s speech can be found below:

My name is Jacob Davis and I want to be your next Dayton City Commissioner.

For those of you who are still getting to know me, I am a proud resident of the Mount Vernon neighborhood, a University of Dayton alum, a husband to Margaret, a father to Quinn, a community-focused attorney, and a small business owner with my friend and partner Chris Nalls.

I am also a believer that our city government can do more and should do more to make life better and more affordable for residents and small business.

I entered this race in February because I recognized that the City has been in a race to no, a race to “NO” on big ideas, new policies and programs. Government is not working as intended. The community has been ignored.

In this election, we must change that. In this election, the community has a voice with 3 candidates: Shenise Turner Sloss for Mayor, Darryl Fairchild for Commission, and myself—Jacob Davis for Commission.

We are three candidates that believe in dreaming big again, disrupting the status quo, and believe our residents come first and our neighborhoods matter!

Darryl, Shenise, and I share a vision where we get housing right once and for all. Because we know the best way to pass down generational wealth is to own a home and pass it down to your family. So we must increase the homeownership rate to reduce poverty. We share a vision on housing because we know that we have too many nuisance properties and we must not only demolish but we also must put properties back into productive use through a new nuisance abatement program. We believe that a housing trust fund must be established and it must benefit our residents, our tenants, and our first time homeowners—not just developers. And finally, we believe that rehabarama and a dollar lot program is ESSENTIAL TO REBUILDING NEIGHBORHOODS BLOCK BY BLOCK.

Darryl, Shenise, and I share a vision that every neighborhood resident must have access to key and critical resources and amenities. That we will drive investment to ensure we have self-sustaining neighborhoods, with grocery stores, health facilities, community centers, and parks or recreation. And as part of this plan, OUR YOUTH WILL FINALLY GET THE ANNUAL INVESTMENT THEY SO DESPERATELY NEED AND DESERVE.

Darryl, Shenise, and I share a vision that we can reimagine public safety. Together, we can implement a new Community Resource Officer program where licensed and trained professionals assist our most vulnerable and at risk residents with employment, housing, and mental health support. By doing that, we will free up our officers to focus on community policing and building relationships with neighborhoods and residents.

And finally, Darryl, Shenise, and I share a vision that we will have a city government by the people and for the people. We believe in transparency and accountability. We believe in asking the tough questions, even if and especially when it is inconvenient. AND WE BELIEVE IN DECORUM AND RESPECT FOR ALL MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION—NOT JUST THOSE IN THE MAJORITY.

Dayton, we can do big things again. We can dream big again. We can make Dayton a better place to live, work, and play for ALL. It will not be easy. It will not happen overnight. But step by step, block by block, we are committed to doing the work with you, the community.

We know we need 3 votes. We need you— to canvass, to volunteer, to share our message, and most importantly to vote. Vote like your future depends on it because IT DOES.

Dayton is a special place. With the right vision and leadership, we can meet this moment. Let’s elect a new majority at City Hall and usher in a new generation of leadership.

My name is Jacob Davis and I ask for your vote. Thank you!
